Hold on to your music-loving hats, Cape Town, because Francois van Coke & Vriende 2023 is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever before! This year, the event not only returned to its hometown of Pretoria but is also making its Cape Town debut, taking the Mother City by storm on Saturday, 16 September, at Grand Arena, GrandWest.

The Superstar Lineup

First and foremost, let’s talk about the South African rock icon himself, Francois van Coke. Known for his electrifying performances and distinctive voice, Francois is a force to be reckoned with in the local music scene. But here’s the twist: he’s not going solo. This concert is all about collaboration, and Francois and his “vriende” have something extraordinary in store.

The lineup is a musical dream team, featuring the likes of Neon Dreams, Loufi, Zaan Sonnekus, and Tasché, among others. These artists aren’t just performing together; they’re creating magic on stage. It’s a tradition for Francois to co-write, record, and release songs with his “new” friends in the lead-up to the event, making each performance a unique, one-of-a-kind experience.

The Classics and the Surprises

You’re probably thinking, “That’s great, but what about the classics?” Fear not, because the concert will also showcase timeless crowd favourites. Elandré, Van Pletzen, Fokofpolisiekar, Van Coke Kartel, Jack Parow, and more will grace the stage with their iconic hits, ensuring that the night is a harmonious blend of old and new tunes.

New Music Alert

But wait, there’s more! Francois van Coke has been teasing us with releasing his En Vriende II EP, track by track, leading up to the main event. It’s like unwrapping a musical gift every few weeks. So far, we’ve been treated to incredible collaborations like ‘The Real Thing’ with Neon Dreams and ‘As ek weg is’ with Tasché.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the EP’s latest single, ‘O, My Donner,’ featuring Hanu de Jong, dropped on 31 August. It’s the cherry on top of an already delightful musical cake. If these tracks are any indication, the EP promises to be a masterpiece.

On 14 September, the entire En Vriende II EP will be released, and you will want to take advantage of it. But here’s the kicker: you can experience these new musical gems live at the concert. It’s a unique opportunity to hear these tracks before they become chart-toppers.

See you at Francois van Coke & Vriende 2023!

I can’t play any musical instruments or sing, so this is my contribution to the local music scene — which I love immensely. I can’t touch my toes, but that has held me back only slightly in life. My hobbies include reading, beer, bringing up Let’s Get Local when no one asked, writing, and surprising people with my pool skills. I believe somehow all of this will lead me to Dave Grohl.
